Problems of North Eastern India

India is a country with a very diverse set of people with different cultural traditions and different ways of life so the problems faced by the country also have many components.
The North Eastern corners of the country are cut off from the rest of the country due to its unforgiving terrain and the huge amount of rainfall. The people there live a very different form of life, with their diet and religious beliefs being very different as they are mostly non vegetarian and are mostly Christians by faith.

There are also many militant groups demanding separate states for each tribe. The people of this region are fed up of their being neglected by the government for so many years. Many people from this region are labelled as being 'Chinese' when they leave their homes in search of jobs to the big cities of the country.

The North Eastern community of Delhi is under great stress as there are scattered incidents of violence against them. They mostly work in the hospitality and the unorganized sector. The development of tourism is the only ray of hope for this region as many people avoid this region due to lack of availability of vegetarian food.

The people here are known to be friendly and hospitable.
I have personally been to Sikkim in 2009 and it was a very pleasant experience as the taxi drivers showed my family the surreal beauty of this rugged and unforgiving landscape. The state of Sikkim has adopted Zero Pesticide Farming too, the first state in our country to adopt this approach.

The state of Meghalaya receives high rainfall and though I have never been there, I have read about its green hills, dense forests, high waterfalls and so on. Manipur and Nagaland are always under some sort of unrest as the militant groups are very active here. Manipur has produced one of the best women boxers in Asia, MC Mary Kom who fought our country's pro boy approach in every field with determination and hardwork.

The state of Arunachal Pradesh is also disputed as China repeatedly claims it to be a part of its territory, this state has a lot of Indian Army presence trying to protect the lives of people. The state of Assam is facing illegal immigration from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh and there have been a lot of conflicts and riots. The state of Tripura is quite peaceful.

If these states don't progress and if they are not well integrated with other parts of the country then it would continue to cost our economy lots of money trying to defend this region from insurgencies. A change of outlook is required or else it would be too late.
